On everyone of my Salesforce.com implementations there is one question that comes up over and over again and that is “can we easily link to documents from a share drive?” for the last many years I had to create a quirky formula and people had to cut and paste quirky url’s to accomplish this.
With External Attachments cutting and pasting url strings is a thing of the past, and more importantly my salesforce.com users love it. No more pasting of links that typically have a space in them and break, now users can easily browse for files on their share drive and associate them to their accounts and cases with a snap. This works with other standard and custom objects with minor tweaking and is easy to use from an administrative point.
